Living in the Sunshine State-Florida comes with many beauty challenges. From keeping your hair from frizzing up due to the humidity, to keeping your makeup from melting off your face and looking like a Zombie. The heat index in Florida reaches 90 degrees or higher almost everyday during the summer season. We all know that we don’t get much of a winter so, keeping it all together can be a “bit” of a struggle!

Take mascara for instance. You put it on as a finishing touch after you blend your eye shadow to perfection. Without the touch of a “bit” of Mascara your efforts won’t stand out. Therefore, I am sure you all can understand that finding the right mascara is very important. You need one that will not only make your eyelashes long and sultry but that will last. I remember one of my good friends say to me that when I put on my mascara it made my eye lashes so sexy. They called any man from across the room. I would laugh every time she said it. However, that stuck with me and I have made it a point to be very selective when it comes to purchasing mascara. However, I must admit that lately I have been very disappointed with quality that is being offered to us from numerous companies. What I have experienced is clumping and forming dark smudges under your eyes. Let’s be honest we are already trying to cover up the dark circles, we don’t need to worry about mascara defeating our efforts. So, I decided to not wear mascara until I found the right one. It seemed that no mater which one I used, waterproof or regular, my mascara would run down my eyes by the time I stepped out of my house and sat in my car. I created a ritual before leaving my driveway. I would get in the car and turn it on. Immediately turn the AC on and direct all the vents to my face. Reach, adjust my mirror and sure enough my mascara was around my lower eyelid. All this before even putting on my seat belt. And if you are wondering “yes it was that quick”. The Florida heat is not joke! Dark smudges underneath my under-eye lids. Racoon eyes! Uggg, so frustrating.

I have put the best of the best to the test. The very expensive brands *this is only my findings and opinion. No brand bashing intended* like MAC, Bare Minerals, Urban Decay to mention a few to the less expensive brands *this is only my findings and opinion. No brand bashing intended* L’Oreal, Almay, Maybeline and I always ended with the same results. Racoon Eyes!

A few weeks ago my 18 year old daughter and I went out to one of our favorite candy store “Ulta Beauty.”  As soon as we went through the doors she went her way and I went mine. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular. I was just happy being in the store. While I was there I had an epiphany. I decided to look for a mascara that can with stand the Florida Heat. I needed a waterproof mascara that would not clump and stay on my eyelashes without hiding under my eyes. I began to walk around the store picking up some old brands that I have tried previously, reading the labels to see if they had changed anything. I also picked up some new brands and read up on those but, I was not being sold on any of them. After about 30min of walking and reading labels I came up to the Too Faced section. I moved over to their Mascara and saw “Sexy Lashes: Rain or Shine Waterproof Mascara.” Rain or Shine? What? That sounds like Florida weather. One minute it’s raining and the next minute it’s sunshine. So, I began to read their details. It basically said that aside from getting the usual “more volume” it was fueled with Collagen which is a major plus when you are a middle age women. It also thickened and lengthened your lashes. Then the magic word “Waterproof”. I thought Waterproof and Collagen in the same home? This is like being offered caviar on a fancy cracker while on a yacht with your new handsome wealthy boyfriend. Jack Pot! I picked it up and I must say the packaging; genius! At least for me it is because it looks like it’s wet. It has these engraved water drops all over it which, ensure you that it can with stand a storm. If you know me, you know that I am that person that will pick up a new brand and try it out. I love to test things to see if it does what it says it’s going to do. So I decided to give it a shot. I bought it. $23.

I was excited and couldn’t wait to test it out. I wanted to try something other than jumping in the pool or getting in the shower. Remember my issues was sweating due to heat. I thought of the ultimate test; Hot Yoga! Yes! What can make you sweat just as much or maybe more than the Florida heat? A Baptist Style Power Hot Yoga Class! I know this first hand because I am an instructor. For those that have never been to a Power Hot Yoga class; it is as if someone threw a bucket of water on you. You sweat profusely! I put on my new mascara and taught my 90 degrees Advance Hot Yoga class. After an hour of downward facing dog, beads of sweat, crow pose, towel pat down, head stand, more beads of sweat, wheel, tree and finally savasana, the results were waiting to be seen. It with held this amazing practice! It took my class like a champ. I did not have any smudges or racoon eyes. My lashes were perfect! The best $23.00 I have ever spent. Too Faced hats off to you!
